Art Village

In this relentlessly consumerist age of technology, we believe in the magic of creation and the healing power of art.

Dereli Maden has always been a great contribution to the country, to the world and back to its own self by holding a grand productive power. Led by Yalçın Dereli, its third generation has ambitions towards growth, expansion and flourishing which now bring out the desire to embrace yet another important type of production: artistic creation. We started out dreaming of bringing together the ancient human need to create art with our marble stones, offering the material that we know best to the service of art, artist and creation, and being able to support artists. We are Dereli Art Project: In this relentlessly consumerist age of technology, we believe in the magic of creation, healing power of art, the harmony to be created when different disciplines come together and that “beauty will save the world”.

We wanted to add a new dimension to something we already do with love and thereby enrich our inner world and share it with the world. Our desire was to add a function and a purpose to the stones that are carved out in quarries and buried back into the ground for not having any use. We asked ourselves the question: “how can we create a zero-waste mining facility?” We reminded ourselves that every material on earth has a purpose, a path and a story. Sustainability became our road map and we began to look for a way for these stones to find their own stories. Then we discovered that the marble that is a waste for the manufacturer can be quite the treasure for someone else. Our adventure started off in Summer 2020 when we invited a group of young sculptors to our quarry in the Marmara Island, and those stones began to give birth to their inner gems in the hands of these young and keen hands.

Our guiding genius has been Michelangelo who once said: “The marble not yet carved can hold the form of every thought the greatest artist has.” We came to realize that as the work of art is carved out of the marble stones, these young sculptors would also be transformed taking their very first steps to give birth to the great artists dormant inside of them. We have now surrendered ourselves to the pleasure of being the intermediary in this date, the matchmaker of the love waiting to be born and the protector of the artwork that will to be brought about.

Encouraging young artists will always be among our primary goals; we will stand by this firm decision. It is our intuition, however, that Dereli Art Project still has a long way to go. Hosting exhibitions of the artwork to be created at the quarry, turning our space on the island into an art collective, offering a platform not only for sculpture but for other disciplines of art as well, and give support to cultural-artistic and restoration projects initiated by various institutions only make up a portion of our dreams. We know that none of them is impossible. This passion was the very reason why we hit this road in the first place. Now we want to greaten it together. We’re so glad that you’ve made it here, so happy that you are here.

Mother earth rewards us with lots of gifts, and it is our duty to take good care of this world. While accepting what nature gives to us, we always remind ourselves to give back – thus sustainability is of utmost importance to us. Keeping that in mind, we have created the Dereli Art Project, so the marble pieces we extract that are not fit for mass consumption go to the hands of the artists to be converted into beautiful art pieces. Raspa is the name of the first group of young artists that has arrived in Marmara Island in the summer of ‘2020. Scroll below to meet them, check back later to see the finished sculptures and don’t forget to follow dereliart on instagram to get the latest updates from the project.

We believe that the marble that is considered waste by the manufacturer can be quite the treasure by others. Thus we have collaborated with sculptor Dinçer Güngörür and he created these beautiful artworks using the waste marbles from our quarry. Please contact us if you’re interested in buying them.
